Guns manufactured at Kenya’s Chalbi Industries in Ruiru will be used in Kenya’s first-of-a-kind shooting competition that is to be held at the Shaba shooting range in Samburu. The event will be held on the 18th and 19th of June and is dubbed as an important stepping stone in getting Kenya to international fame in shooting sports.

The guns’ manufacturing plant, Chalbi Industries, was officially commissioned by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2021 as part of his government’s efforts to upscale local manufacturing and hoist Kenya as a leading manufacturer of arms for local use and supply across the region.

The decision to use locally made guns for this event is a show of confidence in the country’s growing capability as a regional economic and manufacturing giant and is a quick fruit of President Uhuru’s efforts.

Cornel (Rtd) Joseph Kamari, the manager of Shaba Sports Shooting Range welcomed Kenyans at the range and outlined the preparations for the African International Sports shooting which is a regional shooting competition ranked as a level three sports shooting match.

Despite the registration still being open, 106 countries from Africa have so far registered for the event and 15 countries from Asia, Europe and America have also booked spaces in the competition that will bring together over 200 shooters.

Already, the event has raised hopes in the rising back of Kenya’s tourism industry which is yet to fully pick up after the Coronavirus pandemic and it presents an opportunity for visiting shooters and fans to experience the magic of Kenya’s hidden tourist attractions sites in the Rift Valley and northern parts of the country.
