City lawyer Nelson Havi is making waves again, calling for a full investigation into EcoBank after raising concerns about possible payments made to High Court judges.
Through his X post on December 18, Havi asked several government agencies to audit the bank and look into how much money might have been funneled to four judges from the High Court’s Commercial and Tax Division in Milimani.
Havi, a strong advocate for judicial reforms in Kenya, wants the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), the Financial Reporting Centre (FRS), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the bank’s transactions.
“Can CBK, FRS, DCI, NIS, and EACC audit this bank to establish how much money was paid through it to four Judges of the High Court of Kenya at Milimani (Commercial and Tax Division)? Honestly, we civilians should not be doing all their work,” Havi wrote on X.
This comes amid ongoing scandals surrounding EcoBank, which has been accused of fraudulent deals, mismanagement, and defying court orders.
Recently, EcoBank’s Company Secretary, Caroline Mbenge, has been accused of allowing illegal withdrawals and working with fraudsters.
Havi, who’s known for pushing for changes in Kenya’s justice system, says the public shouldn’t be the ones raising red flags about corruption—government agencies should be doing their job.
With corruption concerns mounting over both the bank and the judiciary, Havi’s tweet has added more pressure for authorities to act quickly. The public is now waiting for a response from the relevant agencies, hoping for some accountability.
