Kinyungu Mîcheke video triggers fierce backlash for Gachagua’s DCP ahead of high-anticipated Ol Kalou by-election

In the heat of Kenya’s political battles, a disturbing video has surfaced that exposes the ugly underbelly of our divided nation.

A man identified as Kinyungu Mîcheke, an anti-UDA supporter in Ol Kalou, was filmed deliberately urinating on a yellow cap branded with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s colours and logo. This shocking act comes as campaigns intensify for the July 16 by-election in Ol Kalou Constituency, Nyandarua County.

The video, widely shared on social media, shows Mîcheke standing in a grassy area, holding the cap while speaking. He then turns, places it on the ground, and proceeds to urinate on it in full view of the camera.

This is not a private moment of frustration. It is a public display of contempt, filmed and circulated to send a message during one of the most tense political periods in the region.

Ol Kalou is a key battleground in Mt Kenya, where UDA, backed by the government, faces strong opposition from groups linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies, including the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

This incident highlights how deeply political hatred has sunk in Kenya. Instead of debating policies, jobs, roads, or better healthcare, some people resort to such degrading acts.

Urinating on a party symbol is not just disrespectful—it shows a complete breakdown of basic human dignity and tolerance. In a country where politics already fuels ethnic tensions and violence, this kind of behaviour risks pushing things further into chaos. Leaders on all sides have warned against incitement ahead of the vote, but actions like this prove words are not enough.

The Ol Kalou by-election was triggered by the death of the previous MP, David Njuguna Kiaraho.

It has turned into a proxy war for control of Mt Kenya politics ahead of 2027. UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga benefits from government projects and resources pouring into the area, while opponents cry foul over alleged vote-buying and misuse of state machinery.

Tensions are high, with reports of clashes between supporters and heavy accusations flying. In this poisonous atmosphere, Mîcheke’s act feels like a symptom of a bigger disease: politics that has become personal vendetta rather than public service.

Kenya deserves better. Citizens are tired of leaders who divide them while ordinary people suffer. This video should serve as a wake-up call. Political parties must condemn such extreme behaviour from their supporters. Security agencies need to investigate and send a clear message that public humiliation and incitement will not be tolerated. Voters in Ol Kalou have a chance on July 16 to choose leaders who can rise above this gutter politics.

Acts like urinating on symbols do not strengthen democracy they poison it.

All Kenyans must reject this level of toxicity. Real change comes from ideas and votes, not from degrading stunts that shame everyone involved. Kenya’s future depends on lifting our standards, not dragging them into the dirt.
