Kikuyu MP Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, also the National Assembly Majority Leader, was forced to cut short his speech and flee for safety after a rally turned chaotic.
According to a video shared by Mambo Mseto on X (formerly Twitter), Ichung’wah faced a hostile crowd while addressing residents of the Mt. Kenya region.
Tensions escalated when he tried to justify the possible impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and defend President William Ruto’s administration.
“National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah forced to flee to save himself after angry Mt. Kenya residents demanded his head for leading the push to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” reported Mambo Mseto.
This incident highlights growing discontent in the Mt. Kenya region regarding government decisions. Residents have expressed frustration, especially amid reports of tension between Deputy President Gachagua and President Ruto’s allies.
Earlier in the day, Gachagua had called for peace and faith in legal processes as his impeachment process looms.
Speaking at the ACK Diocese of Embu’s 34th-anniversary event held at Kigari Teachers’ Training College, the Deputy President expressed confidence in the judiciary’s professionalism and fairness.
“Our judiciary is professional, and I have no doubt that our eminent judges will protect and uphold the constitution, the rule of law, and most importantly, the will of the people,” said Gachagua.
The Senate is set to deliberate on Gachagua’s impeachment on Wednesday, October 16. As political tensions rise in the region, such disruptions at rallies signal potential challenges for President Ruto’s government in maintaining unity and public support in key areas like Mt. Kenya.
The incident raises questions about how effectively the government can manage internal divisions and public dissatisfaction amid efforts to consolidate power and political stability.
