Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is facing mounting pressure to reconsider his political alliances as tensions within Kenya Kwanza continue to rise.

Nyandarua Senator John Methu has publicly advised Gachagua to join forces with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya to strengthen his political standing.

Methu’s recommendation stems from the shifting dynamics within President William Ruto’s administration, particularly after the inclusion of Raila Odinga’s key allies in the Cabinet.

This move has left several leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, in a vulnerable position. Meanwhile, Governor Natembeya is emerging as a potential counterweight to established figures like Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Speaking on Wednesday, 21 August, Senator Methu emphasised the need for Gachagua to adopt a more inclusive approach, similar to President Ruto’s strategy of incorporating opposition members into his government.

Methu cautioned Gachagua against maintaining a confrontational stance towards the opposition, warning that it could alienate potential allies.

“I urge you to dismantle the traps we set against the opposition, as they could ensnare our friends. This is a time to build new relationships, regardless of political strength,” Methu stated.

Methu also advised Gachagua to distance himself from Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua, whom he dismissed as lacking significant political backing.

His remarks reflect the ongoing realignments within Kenya’s political landscape, as leaders recalibrate their strategies in response to the evolving situation.

These developments come as President Ruto faces criticism from within his coalition following a Cabinet reshuffle that favoured members of Odinga’s ODM party.

Despite the backlash, Ruto remains steadfast, arguing that the appointments are crucial for national unity and development.
