Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua left many scratching their heads this morning, wondering what he could be planning. This follows reports that he has once again affirmed his support for Karua and Kioni’s push for the One Man, One Vote, and One Shilling initiative, which will be the main agenda during the Limuru III meeting tomorrow.
According to a report verified by Mambo Mseto on May 16, the second in command is said to have also extended an olive branch to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Hon. Jeremiah Kioni, and Narc-K party leader Hon. Martha Karua, adding that he (Gachagua) is ready to meet with them and discuss the affairs of the Mt. Kenya region.
However, Kikuyu Member of Parliament Hon. Kimani Ichungwa, who doubles as the Majority Leader in the National Assembly, expressed concern that the Limuru III meeting is expected to promote tribal issues.
In his message, Ichungwa maintains that no leader in their right mind should support the Limuru III meeting and its agendas, adding that there are established procedures for addressing issues when they arise.
To add another twist, Public Service CS Hon. Moses Kuria has come out to commend Martha Karua, and like Gachagua, said he fully supports the Limuru III meeting and will attend the gathering.
“Let them come and talk to me. I am the senior leader in this region. My doors are open. Let my sister Martha Karua come. Let my brother Jeremiah Kioni come. You know I mean well for this region, and I am the best person to talk to any time, any day,” said Gachagua.
“There should be equality of the vote in the boundary review exercise. The review must focus on the population, and we are saying this because our voice has been diluted in the current boundary status. We are marginalized even in the distribution of resources, and this also means access to health is marginalized, which causes people ill health and death. I’m also personally pushing for an equalization fund, which I borrow heavily from the Canadian constitution,” said Karua recently.
