Business mogul Agnes Kagure has once again shown signs of giving Senator Johnson Sakaja a run for his money ahead of the 2027 general election following the emergence of reports that she has met with Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, one of the vocal ODM leaders.

The meeting, which was revealed by Wanyonyi on his Twitter account, sparked speculation that Kagure might be eyeing an alliance with the opposition party to boost her chances of clinching the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

“Great meeting with my friend @itsagneskagure, discussing matters of national importance. The future shines bright!,” Wanyonyi wrote, accompanied by a photo of him and Kagure smiling.

The tweet sent shockwaves across the political circles, especially in Sakaja’s camp, which has been banking on the senator’s popularity and track record to secure the coveted seat.

However, Kagure, who is also a Jubilee member, has been giving him a stiff competition, having amassed a huge following and support from various groups and leaders across the city.

Kagure, who is the founder and CEO of the Insurance Consulting Group (ICG), has been hailed as a visionary and transformative leader who has the potential to turn around the fortunes of the capital city.

She has also been involved in various philanthropic and empowerment initiatives, especially for women and youth, through her Agnes Kagure Foundation.

Her meeting with Wanyonyi, who is a close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has raised questions on whether she is planning to defect from Jubilee or seek a coalition with ODM to enhance her bid.

ODM, which is the largest party in the Azimio, has not yet announced its candidate for the Nairobi governorship, but has expressed interest in fielding a strong contender to challenge Sakaja and other aspirants.

Some of the names that have been floated as possible ODM candidates include former Nairobi deputy governor Polycarp Igathe, former Nairobi speaker Beatrice Elachi, and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru.

The meeting between Kagure and Wanyonyi has also fueled rumors that ODM might be considering endorsing Kagure as its candidate or forming a pact with her to support her campaign.Image

The meeting between Kagure and Wanyonyi, therefore, signals a possible realignment of forces and interests in the Nairobi gubernatorial race, which is expected to be one of the most hotly contested and watched in the country.
