Connection Between Lawyer Paul Gicheru and President Ruto

Lawyer Paul Gicheru is dead. The lawyer who was also a suspect in a witnesses interference case at the International Criminal Court at the Hague was found dead at his Karen home in what police have suspected to be a possible poisoning.

Mr Gicheru was accused of offences against the administration of justice through corrupt influence of witnesses of the court who were supposed to testify against president William Ruto at the ICC.

According to reports by The Star, Mr Gicheru allegedly bribed witnesses in the case against president William Ruto and journalist Joshua sang to either recant their testimonies or refuse to testify in the charges of crimes against humanity.

This alleged interference by the Kenyan lawyer allegedly led to termination of cases against the two in April 2016.

According to the ICC prosecution team, Gicheru offered bribes and other inducements to the witnesses, who in returned changed, recanted their innitial statements or withdrew as witnesses for the prosecution team.

As a result of his alleged roles in witnesses interference, the late Gicheru was up for arrest following a 2015 warrant by the ICC before he surrendered himself to the same court on November 2nd, 2022 for the case in which he pleaded not guilty.

The late lawyer was waiting for the ICC verdict following the completion of presentation by the office of the prosecution on March 29th, 2022.
