Businesswoman and Nairobi-based politician Hon. Agnes Kagure, in what could be a game changer in the education sector, has come out guns blazing to urge all secondary school principals in Kenya to cease the worrying trend of withholding KNEC certificates and result slips for students who didn’t manage to clear fee arrears.

In her passionate plea, Hon. Agnes Kagure noted that it was sickening for schools to continue torturing students by denying them what belongs to them, especially considering the fact that they did pay to sit for KNEC exams.

Agnes Kagure’s loud call comes amid reports that thousands of Kenyans who sat for their Form Four exams in 2023 are unable to join institutions of higher learning due to the delay or total failure by secondary school heads to release their papers on time.

“Most of our high schools have thrived on the spirit of community. The same communal concern should be at play in releasing students’ result slips and certificates as they seek admission to colleges and universities.

“After all, the students already paid KNEC for them, why withhold them? Let’s find a win-win solution,” Agnes Kagure wrote on her X handle on September 3.

That notwithstanding, it won’t be forgotten that Agnes Kagure has been at the forefront of advocating for issues that affect disadvantaged groups in society, such as youths, women, etc.

Equally, in terms of education, the city tycoon has run empowerment programs that have enabled bright and needy students to access quality education from local and international institutions of higher learning.

Political pundits haven’t remained silent either, with her vibrant advocacy of pro-people issues placing her as the alternative solution for the current mess in Nairobi. Those in the know have already predicted that Agnes Kagure will be the next governor of Nairobi County.
