Political tension has gradually continued building up in the country as fresh details emerge. Insider sources highlighted squabbles inside the Azimio la Umoja coalition over power-sharing agreements, implying that trouble is brewing. According to a local publication’s reports. Two factions have already formed to discuss the power-sharing proposals between major parties inside the alliance once Raila Odinga establishes the government following the August elections.

Shortly after Martha Karua was nominated as Raila’s running partner, a committee of members primarily drawn from the Jubilee and ODM parties was constituted.

According to sources, the committee’s major objective is to agree on which government seats would be assigned to the ODM and Jubilee parties, both elective and appointive. The position of Minister of Interior and National Government Coordination, which is now held by CS Fred Matiang’i, is at the focus of debate. According to individuals familiar with the situation, the committee is split on which party should be granted the job, with both ODM and Jubilee keen.

While Jubilee wants Matiang’i to keep his seat in Raila’s government, ODM wants former Police Spokesperson Charles Owino to take his place.

According to sources, this was the primary reason why Owino declined Gumbo’s offer of a running mate position and announced his return to the police force. The Speaker of the National Assembly is one of the positions that has produced a schism between Jubilee and ODM. According to reports, the ODM has demanded that former Speaker Kenneth Marende be appointed, while Jubilee wants the right to elect their own.
