Police officers have conducted a raid at the home of businessman Jimi Wanjigi on Muthaiga Road, Nairobi, leading to a significant discovery.
The police, led by Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, intercepted a suspicious vehicle parked outside Wanjigi’s residence.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to contain several alarming items, including four teargas canisters, police communication gadgets, and assorted chargers.
Wanjigi, known for his political influence and controversial past, claimed that the raid was unprovoked and politically motivated.
According to him, the police arrived suddenly, cordoning off his residence and conducting a thorough search of the vehicle parked outside his gate. The discovery of such items has raised questions, given the tense political climate and ongoing Nane Nane protests.
Acting Inspector General Masengeli confirmed the findings, stating that the vehicle had been speeding and was abruptly parked outside Wanjigi’s home before its occupants entered the compound.
The raid was part of a broader crackdown on illegal activities, as intelligence reports suggested that individuals were planning to disrupt peaceful protests by infiltrating them and causing chaos.
The police’s actions have sparked a public debate about the legitimacy of the raid and the implications for Wanjigi. While Wanjigi has not been charged, the presence of these items has led to speculation about his possible involvement in activities beyond legitimate business dealings.
The situation remains tense, with Wanjigi’s supporters condemning the raid as a targeted attack, while others view it as a necessary measure to uphold law and order during a time of political unrest.
Wanjigi, known for his outspoken political views, expressed confusion and fear over the sudden police presence, questioning their intentions and the legality of their actions.
The businessman reported that the police were demanding entry into his home, a move he described as an unwarranted invasion. “The police have decided to raid my home,” he added, highlighting the tense situation as more officers continued to arrive at the scene.
