A video of a police officer in uniform hurling insults and accusations at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and sympathy from Kenyans.

The officer, who appeared to be drunk, claimed that he regretted voting for Gachagua in the 2022 elections, as he had failed to deliver on his promises to improve the welfare of the police force.

“Rigathi Gachagua, you are a liar and a thief. You promised us better salaries, better housing, better equipment, but you have done nothing. You have stolen our money and our dignity. You have betrayed us and the people of Kenya,” the officer ranted in Swahili.

The officer also blamed Gachagua for the deteriorating state of the nation, citing the high cost of living, the rampant corruption, the insecurity, and the lack of basic services.

“You have ruined this country. You have made us suffer. You have made us enemies of the people. You have made us beggars. You have made us slaves. You have no shame. You have no conscience. You have no vision. You have no leadership. You have no future,” the officer continued.

The video, which was recorded by a bystander, has elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans online, with some condemning the officer for his unprofessional conduct and disrespect for the deputy president, while others sympathizing with him for his plight and frustration.

Business mogul Alinur, who shared the video on his Twitter account, expressed his support for the officer, saying that he was speaking the truth and exposing the lies of Gachagua.

“A police officer from Central Kenya has decided to express his frustrations with Rigathi Gachagua, who lied to the police that he would increase their salary. This guy has been a police officer for 12 years, but he has nowhere to live. He will be sacked for saying the truth,” Alinur tweeted.

It is not clear where and when the video was taken, or what action will be taken against the officer by the authorities. Attempts to reach the deputy president’s office for comment were unsuccessful.
