15 Verification Tables Empty At Bomas As Chebukati Expected To Announce Presidential Results

Tense has rocked millions of Kenyans as Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati is expected to announce the presidential results today, Monday.

On Monday morning, the 15 tables that had been tasked in the verification process were spotted empty with Kenya Kwanza and Azimio – One Kenya agents taking seats as early as 8:30am ready for the big announcement today.

With six days after electorates plunging in electoral exercise, the electoral commission had been tasked to verify the forms 34Bs submitted from various polling stations across the country and tallying them into forms 34Cs.

Foreign envoys and ambassadors were also seated as early as 8.30am signalling a possible declaration today.

There is also heavy presence of security personnel both at the auditorium, surrounding areas and the main gate.

Both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio are at the venue awaiting the big announcement by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati.

This comes after perennial commotion rocked the Bomas with Raila and Ruto’s allies clashing over election rigging plot allegations.

On Sunday, Siaya governor-elect James Orengo, Kisumu governor Anyang’ Nyong’, Nderitu Muriithi, and newly elected Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna among other Azimio affiliates were temporarily locked out of the Bomas for security reasons.

Constitutionally, the presidential winner is supposed to wield 50+1 per cent in the total votes cast in that particular election. If they fail to acquire 50+1 percent, then the winner and the run-up in that election are forced into a run-off.

Raila Odinga and William Ruto are racing neck to neck with each camp gaining tension ahead of Chebukati’s declaration.

The electoral commission chairman Wafula Chebukati had earlier warned election agents from both camps to uphold utmost electoral decorum and give IEBC ample time to finalize the verification process of forms 34Bs before tallying to forms 34Cs within the constitutional timeline of 7 days.
