Deputy President William Ruto has finally revealed what transpired on the alleged move to almost slap president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking on Monday, 4th July, 2022, in Imenti Central, Meru county, DP Ruto noted that president Uhuru Kenyatta had given up on clinching to presidency after the supreme court had nullified the 2017 general election.

He added that Jubilee coalition had rigorously campaigned to secure the seat and there was no chance to let the seat go to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Raila Odinga (by then, National Super Alliance – NASA).

“Ata kama nilimlazimisha Uhuru Kenyatta awe rais, iko Makosa? Watu wa Azimio wacheni Ujinga. Wanazungusha record ooh Ruto, ooh alikua analazimisha Uhuru Kenyatta awe Rais. Ata mngekua mimi, mngekubali Uhuru atuwache kwa mataa na vile tulikua tumemsukuma?” he posed.

This loosely translates to, “Even if I forced Uhuru Kenyatta to be President, is there a problem? Azimio supporters should stop this nonsense. They are spreading a recording saying that Ruto forced Uhuru to be president. If you were me, would you have accepted Uhuru to abandon us with the way we had pushed him?”

He informed that he used to wake up at 4am in the morning to hold three meetings even Jubilee flag bearer, Uhuru Kenyatta couldn’t wake up.

“I used to wake up at 4amto hold three meetings even before president Uhuru Kenyatta couldn’t wake up. There was no way I would have let the seat go when you people of Imenti woke up in the wee hours of the morning to vote for Uhuru” he said.

Ruto-Uhuru slapping saga erupted after Raila’s key associate Junet Mohammed played an audio during the Azimio – One Kenya rally in Homabay, exposing DP Ruto’s alleged intentions to slap his boss after Supreme Court quashed the 2017 general election.

Ruto and Uhuru parted ways in 2018 after the opposition leader Raila Odinga’s ODM party merged with Jubilee to form Azimio – One Kenya.
