Detectives have arrested David Onyango Elgon, popularly known online as MC Adek Tatu, over allegations linked to inflammatory content shared on social media. Authorities say the arrest follows a series of investigations into posts that sparked strong public reactions and concern among members of the public after they circulated widely online.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the suspect is believed to have published offensive material through his Facebook account under the name “MC Adek Tatu.”

The posts reportedly spread quickly across several platforms, reaching a large audience and triggering criticism from different groups. Investigators said the content was considered harmful and had the potential to disturb public peace and create tension among communities.

The DCI stated that officers began tracking the suspect after receiving intelligence reports about his online activity. This led to a coordinated operation that traced him to Utange in Mombasa County.

Detectives moved to Queen’s Court estate where they found him inside his residence. He was taken into custody without incident and escorted to a police station for further processing.

Police confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as he undergoes standard procedures before being presented in court. Authorities said charges will be filed once the legal review is complete and the investigation file is finalized.

In its statement, the DCI reminded the public that freedom of expression comes with responsibility, especially on digital platforms where information spreads quickly. The agency warned against using social media to share content that may incite hatred, cause division, or disrupt public order.

It emphasized that online spaces are still governed by the law and that misuse of these platforms can lead to arrest and prosecution.

The DCI also urged Kenyans to exercise caution when posting or sharing information online. It noted that content that promotes hostility or celebrates tragedy can have serious consequences, both legally and socially.

Authorities encouraged users to verify information and consider the impact of their words before publishing them.

The case is expected to proceed to court once investigators complete their preparations and submit the file for prosecution review.
