Norah Ratemo recently held a courtesy visit with Dr. Abraham Korir Sing’Oei at the State Department for Foreign Affairs.

The meeting took place at a time when Kenya is preparing for two major upcoming events, the Africa Forward Summit and the launch of Nova Garage. Both events are expected to bring attention to new opportunities aimed at supporting growth in different sectors of the economy.

During the discussions, the two leaders focused on how government institutions and development agencies can work more closely together. They looked at the role of foreign affairs in supporting economic growth through stronger international relationships.

A key point of interest was how Kenya can use diplomacy not only for political engagement but also to open doors for business, investment, and innovation partnerships.

Special attention was given to the digital economy and creative industries. These areas have been expanding steadily in Kenya and are increasingly seen as important drivers of employment and income generation.

The digital space has allowed many young people to build businesses using technology, from software development to online services.

The creative sector, including music, film, fashion, and digital content creation, continues to grow and reach wider audiences both locally and internationally.

Norah Ratemo used the visit to highlight the ongoing work of the Kenya Development Corporation in supporting these sectors. She explained that the institution is focused on helping businesses built around innovation and new ideas.

This support includes access to financing, capacity building programs, and networking opportunities that connect entrepreneurs with potential partners. Much of this effort is directed toward young people who have skills and ideas but often lack the resources needed to develop them into stable businesses.

As the official Innovation Partner for the Nova Garage Launch, KDC is expected to play a practical role in supporting early stage entrepreneurs.

Nova Garage is designed to act as a collaborative space where innovators can meet, share ideas, and receive guidance on how to turn concepts into viable business ventures. It also aims to encourage partnerships and attract investment that can support long term job creation.

Youth employment remains a key concern in Kenya, given that a large portion of the population is made up of young people.

Creating opportunities for them is therefore a national priority. Events such as the Africa Forward Summit and Nova Garage Launch are intended to help bridge the gap between talent and opportunity by connecting local innovators with regional and international networks.

The discussions also emphasized the importance of cooperation between different institutions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs can help promote Kenyan innovations abroad and attract investors, while organizations like KDC provide direct support to businesses on the ground.

This combination is seen as important in addressing challenges such as limited access to funding, skills development, and market entry barriers.

KDC’s approach includes supporting both small and growing enterprises rather than focusing only on large projects.

Through offering tailored financial solutions and training programs, the corporation aims to improve the chances of success for new businesses. Partnerships with other institutions further strengthen this support system.

There is growing attention on how these initiatives will contribute to Kenya’s development goals.

The focus remains on building a stronger environment for innovation, where young people can turn ideas into sustainable livelihoods.
