Pressure is mounting on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja following a chaotic incident at PCEA Kasarani East church, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was attacked by goons during a church service.

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule has now threatened to initiate parliamentary proceedings to remove Kanja from office, accusing him of politicizing the police service and failing in his core duty of protecting Kenyans.

Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday, MP Mule condemned the attack, stating that Parliament is watching Kanja closely and expects swift action.

He urged the IG to focus on his constitutional mandate rather than engaging in politics, warning that failure to act decisively would lead to his ouster.

“How can you attend a political rally in Nyeri but fail to protect worshippers in Kasarani? We are ready to initiate a process to remove you from office if you don’t style up,” said Mule.

The lawmaker demanded that the IG investigate the incident and name those who funded the goon attack, which disrupted the church service and endangered lives.

During the melee, security officers linked to Gachagua reportedly fired into the air to disperse the intruding youths, who were allegedly demanding payment for attending the event.

Gachagua, visibly shaken, accused President Ruto of orchestrating the attack. “You sent goons to Limuru, Nyeri, and now a church? You’ve become bold,” he said, slamming the President’s alleged political intimidation.

MP Mule called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other security agencies to protect religious institutions, affirming that Kenyans have the right to worship peacefully without interference.

The unfolding political storm could see IG Kanja face an uphill battle to maintain his position amid growing calls for accountability.
