As President William Ruto’s Nairobi tour enters its fifth day, a viral video has sparked debate over his security measures.

In the footage, captured during his visit to Eastleigh on March 13, Ruto is seen addressing a large crowd while wearing a sky-blue shirt.

However, keen-eyed Kenyans noticed what appeared to be the outline of a bulletproof vest beneath his clothing, raising questions about his sense of security.

The revelation comes at a time when Nairobi residents continue to grapple with rising crime, including violent muggings and daylight attacks by criminal gangs.

Ironically, while the president moves with heavily armed security personnel and, allegedly, a bulletproof vest, ordinary Kenyans attending his rallies are left exposed to the very dangers he seems to be protecting himself from.

Reports have emerged of goons terrorizing residents after some of his political gatherings, leaving many questioning his commitment to public safety.

On March 14, while touring Umoja, Ruto urged locals to embrace the Affordable Housing Program, saying it would create jobs and improve urban living standards.

He also defended his administration’s efforts to secure overseas employment through the Job Majuu initiative. Later in the day, he is expected to conclude his citywide tour in Roysambu and Kasarani.

Despite his public assurance that his government is working to improve security, many Kenyans remain unconvinced.

Just days before his Eastleigh visit, multiple incidents of violent robberies were reported in the city, with victims recounting horrifying experiences of being stabbed, beaten, and left for dead by ruthless criminals.

Meanwhile, Ruto, surrounded by elite security forces, navigates through Nairobi’s streets in a high-speed convoy, seemingly untouched by the reality his citizens face.

The contrast between Ruto’s heavily guarded presence and the plight of ordinary Kenyans has fueled criticism that his government is prioritizing his safety over that of the people.

While police have cracked down on criminal elements in recent weeks, many argue that the head of state should be doing more to ensure that Nairobians do not feel like sitting ducks in their own city.

As the Nairobi tour nears its conclusion, Kenyans are left wondering—if their president feels the need for a bulletproof vest, what protection do they have?
