Despite tens of Kenyans confirmed dead, hundreds severely injured, and widespread destruction and looting during the recent Gen Z protests against the UDA government’s excesses and corruption, it seems the cries of the Gen Z have fallen on deaf ears in government.

This comes as confirmed reports reveal that Land CS nominee Hon. Alice Wahome has proposed a staggering Kshs 40 billion budget to digitize Ardhi House.

During her vetting in the National Assembly, Wahome, when asked how she plans to address the issue of lost files and certificates, explained that the ministry still operates on a manual systems.

However, what has shocked many Kenyans is the revelation that the Ministry of Lands was already digitized in late 2022 under the then CS Farida Karoney, raising questions about why Wahome now seeks funds to digitize the ministry again.

According to the report by the media then, Farida Karoney on Saturday said that the ministry had already gazetted 84,000 land parcels set to migrate to the Land Registration Act 2012, with 64,000 of them having matured.

Karoney said the move is part of the process of conversion of all parcels from the ambit of the repealed statutes, with a view of migrating to the purview of the Land Registration Act 2012.

“The law stipulates that we must wait for 90 days to close the register and migrate to a new one. We are currently processing the 64,000 so that we can go live with the second registry in Nairobi,” Karoney stated.

She also noted that the closure of all other registers will eliminate the confusion and fraud that is encouraged by parallel registers

‘Kshs 40 billion for what? Servers? Computers? National Land Information Management System? When will CSs stop STEALING from Kenyans? @WahomeHon, you don’t have to STEAL from Kenyans to get rich. Please. You’ve stolen enough. The Land Registry was digitized in 2022,’ wrote CPA Ng’ang’a Mwangi, an X (formerly Twitter) user, on August 2.

Alice Wahome is no stranger to controversy. Rumors have linked her to a notorious government official in an alleged land-grabbing case in Karen last year. At the time, Wahome labeled the legitimate owner of the land as a ‘cartel’ who thought the government would be intimidated.

Also, Lands Cabinet Secretary nominee Alice Wahome has disclosed that she is worth Sh327,650,000.

“It’s mine and my husband. It’s Sh327,650,000,” she said.

Wahome explained that the increase in net worth was a result of her properties appreciating in value.

She added that a tenant who owed her also paid a lumpsum of around Sh14 million in March.
