Hon. Boniface Khalwale, the current Kakamega County Senator, has this evening mocked UDA Party Secretary General Hon. Cleophas Malala shortly after reports indicated that a section of founding UDA Party leaders have ousted him (Malala).

Led by Lawyer Joe Khalende, the group calling themselves ‘founding members of UDA’ accuses Malala of sabotaging the party’s progress and the Broad-Based Government formed by party leader President William Ruto and his ODM counterpart Raila Odinga.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Lawyer Khalende announced that he was the new acting Secretary General and that Malala has been barred from carrying out any functions of the ruling party.

“Malala has abdicated his role and duty as the SG of the ruling party. The critical role of the SG of the UDA party is the spokesperson of the party; he communicates and initiates meetings on behalf of the party.

“Clearly, Malala has joined our opponents. He is supporting the TAWE movement and agendas which contradict the ruling party,” said Khalende.

Through his X handle, Khalwale, however, shares a photo of Malala and a cryptic message that “easy comes easy goes” to imply that the fate of Cleophas Malala had already been decided by the big wigs who appointed him.

In the past few months, Malala has been at loggerheads with a section of Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders who felt that he has been flying too close to the sun by forcing all parties to dissolve and join the ruling United Democratic Alliance Party ahead of the upcoming 2027 general election.

The internal conflicts within the UDA party have been brewing for some time now, with various factions expressing dissatisfaction with Malala’s leadership style.

His approach, which has been described as autocratic by some party members, has led to significant friction and discontent. This culminated in today’s events, where his removal from the position of Secretary General was announced publicly.

Khalende, taking over as the acting Secretary General, has promised to steer the party back to its foundational principles and ensure that it remains united and focused on its goals. He emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to leadership and vowed to address the concerns raised by the party members.
