Fresh cracks have continued to emerge in the Kenya Kwanza camp over the decision by ODM Party leader Hon. Raila Odinga to criticize President William Ruto during his recent visit to Mukuru Kwa Reuben slum.
In a video viewed by this reporter, and in what is likely to escalate tension between Kenya Kwanza and the opposition camps, leaders led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kericho Senator Hon. Aaron Cheruiyot, among others, urged the opposition leader to be thankful.
The Kericho Senator specifically argued that it is troubling to see the opposition leader reverting to past practices. According to him, it is President William Ruto who has positioned the opposition leader as a key figure in African politics.
“We all wish well for Raila to be AUC Chair however, yesterday I was surprised by what I saw in the media. Wewe unatafutiwa kazi, badala ya kunyamaza utulie polepole, unaanza kutusi chief campaigner wako. Sisi tunajaribu kumsaidia, yuko chini ya mtaro tunamuinua, na kabla asimame ameshaanza kutusi wale wanamsaidia,” said the Kericho Senator.
Yesterday, Mr. Odinga, speaking to the press in Mombasa, described President Ruto’s remarks from the previous day as “unacceptable” and indicative of an “impending absolute dictatorship” in the nation.
The visibly upset opposition leader referenced past eras where he claimed the judiciary was controlled by the executive branch, and he vowed to lead resistance against any attempts to undermine the judiciary.
“We urge our friend Raila to recognize that William Ruto understands the issues of the economy better than you do; he has transformed the economy. He also comprehends the nation’s politics as evidenced by his electoral victory against you, even when you were supported by the sitting government.
“Additionally, he understands international politics, which is why he is aiding your candidacy for the African Union Commission Chairpersonship,” said Ichung’wah.
