Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has alleged victimization by her party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Wamuchomba, known for her outspoken nature, claims that her political stance on the country’s current affairs has led to this victimization.
“I am not muzzled, I speak my mind and you know that. I have been victimised quite enough,” Wamuchomba stated. She further alleged that the ruling party has sent politicians to her constituency to counter her politically.
Wamuchomba, elected on a UDA ticket, has been critical of the administration’s policies, insisting they hurt the people. However, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala dismissed her claims, stating the party is focused on delivering their campaign promises to Kenyans.
“We are focused on achieving the promises we made to Kenyans during the campaign. Therefore, I will not be responding to every ‘barking dog’,” Malala said.
In January, Wamuchomba expressed strong opposition to the policies of Kenya Kwanza, citing insensitivity to her voters’ plight. She explained that her views are influenced by her upbringing and schooling, which shape her actions beyond political expectations.
Wamuchomba stated she cannot sit back when policies are forced on Kenyans. She believes most Kenyans do not understand her hardline positions on some issues. “They only see us on screens and they don’t understand the other burdens that we carry,” she said.
She opposed the government’s position on the Finance Bill 2023, calling it a “controversial document” with aspects she disagreed with. “I knew if I did agree with them then, there is a section of people that I represent which I felt were not going to be treated fairly,” Wamuchomba added.
