Safina Namukwaya, a 70-year-old woman from Uganda, has become a mother to twins.

The historic event happened at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre on November 29, where Namukwaya delivered a healthy baby boy and girl through a caesarian section.

The Women’s Hospital shared his extraordinary journey on their social media pages, emphasizing the mother’s and her newborns’ remarkable condition.

The story becomes even more exceptional as Namukwaya conceived through the In vitro fertilisation (IVF) method. This advanced reproductive technique involves the union of a woman’s egg and a man’s sperm in a laboratory dish.

This accomplishment is a rare feat for women of Namukwaya’s age, making her a symbol of hope and inspiration.

The hospital’s social media posts described the event as a “historic achievement” and invited others to celebrate this courageous mother’s journey.

While the medical success of the IVF treatment is acknowledged, the Women’s Hospital also recognises the strength and resilience of the human spirit, emphasizing that Namukwaya’s story goes beyond the realm of science.

The hospital noted that her case coincided with their 20th anniversary, adding a layer of significance to the celebration.

“A historic achievement indeed. As we honour this courageous mother and anticipate the healthy growth of her twins, we invite you to celebrate with us,” they wrote.

Namukwaya’s remarkable journey challenges preconceived notions about fertility and age limits.

This feat may even position her as the oldest mother in the African continent, marking a significant milestone in the field of reproductive health.
