Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Volunteers in Nairobi have a reason to smile after Independent Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Agnes Kagure came to their rescue with a timely bag of goodies.

Through her official verified social media handles, Agnes Kagure announced the wonderful news that included rolling our of PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) distribution across the county to the gallant servants of the people who have for long been working without protective equipment.

The gubernatorial candidate also announced financial support to the health workers as a short term measure to boost their economic sustenance since they are not yet included in the county pay despite the important work they do. Agnes Kagure also noted that she had directed her team to formalize a savings Sacco for the health workers where she would also pump in money to start them off.

Together with my running mate, we had a productive engagement with the leadership of Community Health Workers and Volunteers this afternoon.
I’m happy that courtesy of our ongoing partnership, we’ll soon be able to roll out PPEs across our sub-counties to our selfless CHW and CHVs who do so much but get so little from their work.
Further, as we work to get into office and operationalize the monthly salaries for this gallant team, I have committed to financially supporting the sub-county and ward-based self-help groups that sustain the CHWs and CHVs, as we work towards formalising a Sacco for them.
Better days are ahead, Afya Yetu, Jukumu Letu.

The move to empower and equip the health workers has been received well by the leadership of the group who have thanked Kagure and have promised to support her gubernatorial bid.

Agnes Kagure has been a consistent fighter for better working terms for both informal and formal county health workers and has particularly taken keen interest in the welfare of the community health workers and volunteers who as she noted, do so much but get so little.
