A parliamentary sitting that was convened on June 19 to debate on the controversial Finance Bill 2024 was not short of name-calling, drama as well as verbal chaos.
Githunguri Member of parliament Hon Gathoni Wamuchomba didn’t hide her anger and dissatisfaction when she openly criticized the Generation Z for sharing MPs’ phone numbers online, bombarding their phones with endless phone calls and SMS urging them to reject the Finance Bill 2024 that contains poisonous tax proposals.
Also to her fellow MPs, Hon Gathoni Wamuchomba asked them to shut up and accused them of being hypocrites for being mad after Kenyans cyber-bullied them via WhatsApp, normal short message services as well as phone calls, asking whether any of them was aware that the Kenya Revenue Authority will be having unrestricted access to their (both MPs and Kenyans) Mpesa and bank accounts should the Finance Bill sails through.
On her part, Hon Wamuchomba said there is need to summon the Office of The Data Commisioner that is headed by Emmanuel Kassait the Ex-IEBC Commisioner. Wamuchomba said the govt agency should ensure that all data belonging to all Kenyans are secure and nothing like leakage should happen.
To Generation Z and Kenyans online at large, Hon Wamuchomba condemned then for sharing MPs numbers and urged them to exercise caution, now that the Finance Bill proposal that could hurt then is being debated by the National Assembly.
That aside, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders have joined calls for the total withdrawal of the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
Led by Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka, the opposition downplayed the removal of some sections of the Finance Bill insisting that several clauses are illegal to the core.
The opposition has maintained that its MPs must stay put in parliament to reject the bill currently before the House.
