Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has sacked her Chief of Staff, Charles Odhiambo, in what is shaping up to be one of the biggest scandals in the county government.
Odhiambo, once a trusted right-hand man, now finds himself jobless after accusations of gross misconduct and insubordination.
In a termination letter dated March 28, 2025, Wanga made it clear that Odhiambo had violated the values of good governance and public trust.

Without explicitly stating the reasons, the letter condemned his behavior, stating that his actions had brought dishonor to the county government and the governor’s office.
But behind the official language lies a storm of allegations that have gripped Homa Bay residents. Reports have been swirling that Odhiambo’s woes stem from an alleged affair with the governor—a claim that has been denied by both parties.
Some sources even suggest that Odhiambo was assaulted by people believed to be linked to Wanga’s husband, George Wanga, further fueling the controversy.
As the scandal gained momentum, Governor Wanga, who was in New York attending the UN Commission on the Status of Women, dismissed the affair rumors as baseless propaganda.

“People will always talk. My focus remains on serving the people of Homa Bay,” she told journalists upon her return.
Odhiambo, on his part, has also rubbished the claims. Speaking to Ramogi TV, he termed the allegations as politically motivated, accusing rivals of trying to tarnish his name.
“These are just lies meant to bring me down. I am fine, and I have never been attacked by anyone,” he said.
Despite the denials, the county remains abuzz with speculation. Was this just a case of professional misconduct, or is there more to the story?
Whatever the truth may be, one thing is clear—Odhiambo’s time at the heart of Homa Bay’s leadership has come to an abrupt and dramatic end.
Now, as the dust settles, the focus shifts to who will replace him and whether this saga will leave lasting cracks in Wanga’s administration.
