Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has urged Kenyans to shift their focus from blaming President William Ruto alone for the skyrocketing public debt and instead include or rather add former former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the mix.
Nyakundi argues that it is now evident that Uhuru was responsible for illegal borrowing during his tenure, leading to the current economic crisis and that there is no way Pres William Ruto can be forced to carry the cross alone.
In a post on his X handle, Nyakundi stressed the need for an honest and exclusive conversation to reveal how Uhuru managed to construct and fund the private Northlands City in Ruiru.
According to Nyakundi, blaming the current administration for the debt crisis only implies that Uhuru Kenyatta is beyond reproach and cannot be held accountable for the financial mismanagement during his Jubilee government.

“When the time comes, likely soon, judging by the signs, Kenyans must refuse to bail out the government like Ghana did. We all know where the illegitimate debt was diverted to. Uhuru was the primary beneficiary, and Northlands City is entirely funded by that unlawful debt,” Nyakundi wrote on X on Sunday, August 11.
Nyakundi further urged Kenyans to avoid following Ghana’s example when holding the government accountable for the economic mess.
He believes that focusing on Ruto without scrutinizing Uhuru’s actions would allow the former president to escape responsibility for his role in the crisis.
This development comes just weeks after President William Ruto formed a multi-sectoral committee to audit all borrowing and spending from 2013 to 2024. The committee’s goal is to determine how the borrowed funds were used and where any remaining money went.
However, Nyakundi’s latest move to extend the battle to former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s doorstep has left Kenyans more energized with unconfirmed reports indicating that the Gen Z protests could be extended to Uhuru Kenyatta and his cronies in the coming days.
