President William Ruto has reportedly decided to help ODM leader Raila Odinga with regards to having his daughter Winnie get an EALA seat.
Raila’s party has presented a number of candidates for the seat, among them Winnie, who is seen as his preffered candidate and heir apparent.
Ruto, it is reported, has directed his Kenya Kwanza MPs to support Winnie, according to MPs who attended a Parliamentary Group held in State House held on Thursday.
An MP told The Star that he also directed them to support Kennedy Kalonzo, son to Wiper leader and Raila’s opposition partner Kalonzo Musyoka.
“For our brothers let’s give them enough rope to hang themselves,” one of the lawmakers who attended the event quoted the Head of State as having said.
But this comes an an unexpected move, as Ruto was expected to try and completely vanquish the two, especially Raila, who has been fighting him.
Raila, whom he defeated in August, has been opposing almost each of his moves, and has also contested his win, claiming he was rigged in.
In her campaigns, Winnie, a greenhorn in elective politics, has been distancing her bid from her dad, saying that he has nothing to do with her candidacy.
The younger Kalonzo, on the other hand, is seeking a second term in the Arusha-based legislative house.
