Nairobi County Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), led by Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, have united in a call to impeach Governor Johnson Sakaja, citing alleged corruption, mismanagement of resources, and poor leadership.

Alai, an ODM party ally, claimed Sakaja’s administration has been compromised by a circle of individuals he describes as “greedy and incompetent.”

Addressing the growing unrest in the county, Alai stated, “Nairobi haiwork!” voicing widespread frustration among MCAs over what they describe as Sakaja’s poor governance.

He accused the governor of failing to address Nairobi’s pressing issues and instead surrounding himself with a “cabal of greedy and incompetent gangs,” who, he says, are destroying the city’s potential and misusing public funds.

“Those who love Nairobi MUST stand up and demand better,” Alai declared, highlighting the need for change in the county’s leadership.

In response, Alai introduced “Agenda 47,” a newly launched movement that aims to reclaim Nairobi from what he sees as corrupt influences.

According to Alai, the movement will push for higher standards of integrity and efficiency in running the county’s affairs, ensuring that Nairobi serves its residents more effectively.

This threat of impeachment against Sakaja is not without precedent. Alai and other MCAs recalled Sakaja’s reaction during the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, pointing out that the governor had laughed at the time, showing little sympathy for the process. Now, they argue, Sakaja finds himself facing the same scrutiny he once dismissed.

As Nairobi residents watch closely, Governor Sakaja’s office has yet to comment on the allegations or the impeachment threat.

Should the MCAs move forward with the motion, Nairobi could see a significant shift in leadership, potentially reshaping the administration’s approach to governance, resource management, and integrity within City Hall.
