President William Ruto has responded to critics of the high cost of living by insisting that prices are on the decline.

Speaking at Joyland village on Saturday, Ruto highlighted a significant drop in maize flour prices, now standing at Sh100, a decrease he attributes to his administration’s efforts.

Addressing the crowd, Ruto pointed out that those who previously complained about the cost of maize flour are now silent, unaware of the measures he has implemented to address the issue.

He praised the farmers of Kirinyaga and other regions for their crucial role in this achievement, noting that their hard work has been instrumental in reducing food prices.

The President expressed his gratitude to Kirinyaga residents for their dedication, particularly in response to the government’s call for increased agricultural production. He acknowledged the impact of the subsidised fertiliser programme, which has empowered local farmers to grow more food and, consequently, lower the cost of living.

“I thank you, people of Kirinyaga, for your hard work,” Ruto said. “When we reduced the price of fertiliser, you returned to your farms, planted, and produced food for us.

“Now, maize flour is at Sh100. The critics who were vocal about high food prices are now quiet because they don’t know what we have done. Your efforts have been the remedy.”

Ruto reassured farmers that his administration will continue to provide quality and affordable fertiliser and support agricultural development across the country.

He also mentioned ongoing plans to improve the coffee, tea, and milk sectors in Central Kenya to ensure better returns for farmers.

The President’s visit to Kirinyaga County on Saturday also included the launch and groundbreaking of several new projects, further demonstrating his commitment to advancing the region’s agricultural and economic development.
