Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has ignited a political storm by demanding the resignation of National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director-General Noordin Haji following Raila Odinga’s resounding defeat in the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship race.

Amisi, a staunch ally of Odinga, accused Haji of failing to provide crucial intelligence that could have guided Kenya’s campaign to victory.

In a strongly worded X post, the MP questioned the effectiveness of the country’s intelligence apparatus, arguing that Kenya should have been better prepared for the diplomatic hurdles that lay ahead.

“The purpose of NIS is to provide intelligence useful to help the country safeguard her sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as achieve her objectives. In this AUC campaign, Noordin Haji failed miserably,” Amisi wrote.

He further called for the resignation of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who played a central role in Odinga’s bid, accusing him of misleading the former prime minister and the country.

“By now, Musalia and Haji should have resigned for lying and subjecting Baba to a loss that he doesn’t deserve!” he added.

Odinga, who was widely seen as a frontrunner, suffered a crushing defeat to Djibouti’s Mohamed Ali Guyo, who secured an overwhelming 50 votes against Kenya’s three.

The humiliating outcome has sparked outrage among Odinga’s supporters, who believe Kenya’s diplomatic and intelligence teams failed in their strategy.

Amisi’s remarks reflect growing discontent within opposition circles, with many questioning why Kenya’s campaign was poorly executed despite Odinga’s stature as a respected African statesman.

The Saboti MP went further to call for a complete overhaul of Kenya’s foreign policy strategy, insisting that the country must learn from this embarrassing episode.

“Kenya needs a renaissance!” Amisi declared, signaling a need for fresh political and diplomatic leadership.

As the dust settles, neither Haji nor Mudavadi has responded to the calls for their resignation.
