Vihiga Women Representative contest has taken a fresh dimension with candidates like Winnie Majani unleashing campaign machinery and community networks to dub electorates into their vote-hunting baskets.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Winnie Majani, who is enjoying significant backing of Azimio – One Kenya coalition has floored Amani National Congress (ANC) incumbent women representative Beatrice Adagala to beat the tape first, in the new poll.
According to the research surveyed by Mizani Africa, Winnie Majani is the most preferred candidate with 46.1 per cent, widening a range her perceived horse opponent, Beatrice Adagala, who enjoys 25.4 per cent of electorates support.
Mizani Africa also indicated that Mary Amalemba banks on 19.3 per cent support from voters while United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Violet Bagada bags 4.4 per cent.
Other candidates eyeing for the seat includes; Jackline Mwenesi of UDA (2.2%). The report established that 1.9 per cent of electorates remains undecided.
Delighted Majani acknowledged that although she had trusted the ground to have shifted to embrace Azimio – One Kenya, but the poll topping her on the list caught her unaware.
“I trust the ground more, however it caught my attention today” she said
This emerges after Azimio – One Kenya traversed the region while wooing electorates to vote for Azimio allied candidates in the forthcoming August contest.
Mudavadi and Wetangula, who are perceived to be Luhya kingpins, are reportedly supposed to deliver 70 per cent to Kenya Kwanza Alliance in exchange for securing 30 per cent of Ruto’s government.
