Even the dust of Pres William Ruto’s decision to disband his entire cabinet hasn’t settled down before Gloria Orwoba a Nominated Senator attempts to redeem herself and the govt at large.
According to the reports on July 12, Friday, Hon. Orwoba has proposed a bill that will see culprits of Sanitary pads thievery get jailed for atleast 5 years or pay fine of Kshs 10 Million. The bill appear to be targeting fellow politicos who had developed an habit of taking over advantage of every thing they come across especially if it has be donated free of charge.
The Provision of Sanitary Towels Bill, 2024, provides for free sanitary towels to all schoolgirls and women inmates.
“A person who rebrands or resells sanitary towels distributed by the committee or a county interdepartmental committee commits an offence,” the Bill states.
For first offenders, the Bill states, they will face a Sh5 million fine or three years in jail, while repeat offenders will be fined Sh10 million or five years imprisonment.
The proposed law mandates the state to set aside an annual budget for the provision of the essential commodity to learners.
“The purpose of the Bill is to provide for the provision of quality, free and sufficient sanitary towels in all public institutions,” the Bill states.
The proposed law, which comes as a relief to many learners from poor backgrounds, is sponsored by nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba.
It has been introduced in the Senate for the first reading.
The introduction of the bill for the first reading by the Senator was preceded by violent wave of protests that saw several shot dead hundreds injured seriously, and others abducted by the govt over accusations of funding protests.
Those in the govt attempted to sell propaganda that linked Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Hon Rigathi Gachagua but all that flopped since Gen Z was leaderless and partyless.
