Matiang’i Quietly Jets Out Of Kenya To Avoid Arrest

Former Interior Secretary Fred Matiang’i was whisked away in a cargo plane on February 19.

This is as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was busy looking for him in Nairobi. Matiangi had been summoned by the DCI to appear for questioning on February 23.

It is said that Dr. Matiang’i is seeking asylum in a western country. He was sneaked out of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) aboard KLM 566 – a non-passenger flight that is often known to carry flowers.

The Sunday midnight flight PH BVN left the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport before landing at Schiphol Airport on Monday around 6.35 am.

Sources have reliably told us that Dr. Matiang’i decided to seek asylum following the breaking into his Karen home by the DCI who wanted to arrest him in what looks like a revenge mission by the Ruto administration.

The former CS already has a restraining order against the DCI issued by the High Court.

He was initially scheduled to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in February 22, meaning he managed to escape before the officers he previously commanded could question him.

It is unclear whether it is the Netherlands that granted the former powerful CS asylum, amidst howling by the leaders allied to the Ruto administration for his blood.

Matiang’i was President Uhuru Kenyatta’s blue-eyed boy who is widely believed to have been prosecuting critics of the previous administration, including the sitting President.

The DCI which has been searching for him has today been informed by the Immigration department that its target is no longer in the country.

“The subject departed JKIA on February 19 using KLM flight number KL 566,” the Immigration department has told the DCI.
