Former Meru Governor Hon. Kiraitu Murungi announced that the Mt. Kenya region will support President William Ruto in the 2027 elections. Speaking in Meru during President Ruto’s development tour on June 13, Murungi emphasized the unwavering backing from the region and expressed confidence in Ruto’s leadership.

Murungi addressed a large gathering, asserting, “Meru is with President William Ruto till further notice.” He praised the President’s commitment to development and his efforts to address the needs of the people in the region.

However, Murungi also took the opportunity to openly caution a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders, urging them to focus on development rather than early political campaigns.

“Kenyans are tired of leaders who are engaging in early campaigns as well as politics that are likely to be branded as tribal,” he stated, highlighting the public’s growing discontent with premature electioneering and divisive rhetoric.

President Ruto’s tour, which aims to promote various development projects in the region, was met with enthusiasm from local leaders and residents. The President has pledged to enhance infrastructure, education, and healthcare services, promising a transformative agenda for the area.

Elsewhere, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will have a Sh2 billion repurposed police helicopter for official and unofficial operations across the country in the next two weeks once the reconfiguration and rebranding is complete.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale told The Standard that the Augusta Westland police helicopter has been reconfigured, rebranded, and will be handed over to the Office of the Deputy President before the end of the month.

“We grounded an expensive police helicopter so that it can be reconfigured for the Deputy President after authorisation by President William Ruto. Once handed over, the plane will be the DP’s, for official and private use,” said Duale.

The CS revealed that the helicopter had to undergo rigorous tests for safety and comfort to ensure it is up to standard to carry VVIP.
