According to reports by Citizen Digital, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki faced a tough reception in Othaya, Nyeri County, where he was attending an empowerment event. A group of angry youth stood outside the stadium’s perimeter fence, chanting “one term” as a sign of disapproval.

Security officers were forced to act and pushed them away from the fence as the event continued inside. More police officers were later deployed to manage the situation and maintain order during the function.

Despite the tension outside, Deputy President Kindiki took the stage and made strong remarks that seemed to be targeting his predecessor, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“Haya mambo ya viongozi kuja kutisha viongozi wengine, yakome! Lazima tuheshimiane… heshima si utumwa…” Kindiki said.

This was a direct warning against leaders who he felt were trying to intimidate others in leadership. He went on to say, “Huwezi kuja hapa nikama wewe tu ndio kiongozi unajua kila kitu… ati wewe ndio unafaa kusikizwa… kwani wewe ni Mungu?”

His statement suggested that some leaders in the region were behaving as if they were the only ones with the right to speak or make decisions, and he clearly rejected that kind of attitude.

Kindiki also used the event to remind Kenyans that the Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to delivering on its promises. He assured the public that the government’s pledges would be fulfilled and asked for patience and unity among leaders. This was seen as a way to calm political tensions and focus on service delivery instead of personal fights.

Earlier in the day, Kindiki had met Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire at his official Karen residence. This came after reports of a possible fallout between them, following a strong statement by Mbarire during Madaraka Day celebrations in Embu.

But Kindiki dismissed those claims and said there were no issues between him and the people or leaders of Embu. “We have no differences with leaders or the people of Embu. Those trying to bring differences we have no differences,” he said.

He also cleared the air about recent meetings he held in Embu without the governor’s presence. According to him, they were not political meetings and were not meant to disrespect her position. “Na ndio mjue tuko sawa… pokeeni salamu za my sister Cess. She was to be here today but Rais aliitisha mkutano na all Governors, ya livestock vaccination…” he explained.

During the first ever macadamia conference in Embu, Kindiki highlighted his efforts in protecting local cash crops. He intervened in the Cash Crops (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which aimed to delist muguka from the scheduled cash crops list and label it as a drug.

After his intervention, the bill’s sponsor, Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly to halt the legislation. This move was seen as a win for muguka farmers and a demonstration of Kindiki’s commitment to supporting agricultural sectors.
