Wycliffe has sparked fresh discussion around Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi after sharing strong criticism about their long political relationship.
Wycliffe claimed that he worked closely with Mbadi for nearly 20 years as a communication officer without receiving a salary, formal employment, or empowerment.
He openly described Mbadi as a bad leader and said he should not be supported in any attempts to become a Luo political kingpin.
Mbadi is one of the most experienced politicians in Kenya today. Over the years, he has served in different leadership positions both in Parliament and within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Before becoming Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, he represented Suba and later Gwassi constituencies in Parliament. He also served as the Leader of Minority in the National Assembly and chaired important parliamentary committees dealing with finance and oversight matters.
Many Kenyans know Mbadi as a trained accountant who has spent years discussing public finance and economic planning issues. His appointment to the Treasury came during a period of major political changes in the country, where leaders from different political sides joined the Broad Based government arrangement.
Since then, Mbadi has continued appearing at public events and addressing national economic matters facing the country.
However, political life in Kenya often comes with both support and criticism. Wycliffe’s comments reflected frustrations that sometimes emerge between politicians and people who once worked closely with them.
According to him, Mbadi focuses too much on building popularity and influence within the Luo community. His remarks came at a time when debates about leadership in the region continue to attract attention from supporters and critics alike.
Wycliffe also mentioned Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi while discussing the current political environment.
He claimed that some actions by leaders within the Broad Based government were embarrassing the coalition.
