Former Narok MCA, Stephen Kudate, sensationally claimed that Environment CS Soipan Tuya expelled him from their matrimonial home in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, upon her appointment to office.
Kudate asserts they were legally married, having observed all traditional marriage rites. However, in September 2022, Tuya deserted their matrimonial home when she assumed her role as CS.
In response to an application filed by Tuya seeking upkeep and child maintenance, Kudate has denied neglecting the children they share. He claims that the CS deliberately excluded him from participating in their children’s welfare.
“As the head of the family, I was a man of means who provided adequately. She knows that I am jobless, but with the little I have, I effectively play my parental role,” he stated.
According to the report by The Star Digital in November in 2023, Tuya moved to court seeking custody of their two children and a total of Sh3.1 million annually for their upkeep.
She claimed her estranged husband treats their children and her domestic workers with cruelty, subjecting them to psychological, emotional, and verbal abuse, and thus seeks full custody of the minors.
However, Kudate, in his response, denied the allegations of abuse, stating that Tuya is the one who has been verbally violent and unruly.
“I have taken care of her. She is out to frustrate me and wreck my life just as she did to her first husband from Kajiado, who supported her while she pursued her Master’s degree in Law in the United States, only for her to abandon him,” he said.
Kudate has asked the court not to grant the orders sought by Tuya, arguing that he is better placed to have custody of the minors because Tuya is never at home to interact with them.
“Her numerous local and international trips subject the children to loneliness and neglect. They lack parental care and guidance and a father figure, as they have been forced to live with strangers, drivers, house helps, and relatives because she has scarce time with them,” he stated.
