Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed his frustration with the ongoing political narrative that blames him for Kenya’s problems, adding that MPs who betrayed him during his impeachment should seek forgiveness from the people, not him.
Speaking at the funeral of Eric Mutugi, the son of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, Gachagua dismissed claims that his removal from office would solve the country’s challenges.
He criticized the MPs who believed that his departure was the key to improving Kenya’s political landscape, stating that the real wrong was done to the citizens who had voted for him.
Gachagua’s comments come amid his reflection on the political betrayal he faced during his historic impeachment.
He reassured the people of Mt Kenya that he remained committed to guiding the region, expressing concern about its future without proper leadership.
“I have listened to elders, church leaders, business people, and professionals; I continue to listen to what’s happening on the ground.
“We will give direction to the people of the mountain on how we will live in this Kenya. Otherwise, we may find ourselves in the hole they’ve put us in,” he added.
Gachagua also took a swipe at National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who had previously linked him to a series of abductions.
He accused President William Ruto and his allies of inconsistency and manipulation, urging Kenya Kwanza leaders to respect the intelligence of Kenyans.
He stood firm on his commitment to the truth, despite the political resistance he continues to face.
As Gachagua prepares to lead Mt Kenya forward, his messages of unity and political clarity resonate as he navigates the turbulent waters of Kenyan politics.
