Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has addressed growing speculation surrounding his absence from President William Ruto’s recent development tours, firmly dismissing claims that this signals a fallout between the two leaders.
Speaking during an event in Njoro, Nakuru county on August 17, DP. Gachagua downplayed the rumors, clarifying that his decision not to accompany the President is a deliberate and tactical move designed to confuse political opponents.
Gachagua explained that his absence should not be misinterpreted as a sign of discord or weakening support for President Ruto. Instead, he emphasized that the strategy is to keep their adversaries on their toes, preventing them from accurately predicting the administration’s next moves.
“Some people think I must always be by his side, but that’s not necessary. This is a tactical decision to confuse those who want to exploit any perceived gaps between us,” Gachagua stated.
Reaffirming his unshakable support for President Ruto, the Deputy President sought to reassure both supporters and critics that the partnership between him and the President remains strong and intact. He noted that their shared vision for Kenya’s development remains their primary focus.
In a more pointed message, Gachagua issued a stern warning to government officials, urging them to conduct themselves in a manner that supports, rather than hinders, the President’s agenda.
He warned against behavior that could sabotage President Ruto’s chances of re-election, stressing that this is not the time for petty politics. “Government officials must align themselves with the President’s vision and avoid any actions that could be perceived as undermining his leadership,” Gachagua cautioned.
The Deputy President’s remarks come at a critical time when the administration faces increasing scrutiny from both political opponents and the public.
Gachagua’s statements appear to be an effort to dispel any doubts about the unity within the government and to reinforce the administration’s commitment to its development agenda.
