Raila received his certificate to contest in the August elections today marking the start of a new chapter in his political career. Wafula Chebukati delivered him to him in the Kenyan town of Bomas where a large throng had gathered to watch the event. After receiving the certificate, Raila was given the opportunity to address the country before leaving the location. Raila enquired about the results transmission mechanism as follows:
“Has the commission created constitutionally appropriate mechanisms for transmitting polling location results to the national tallying centre? When will the public have access to the same protocols as the commission?” Raila Odinga asked the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Wafula Chebukati.
Chebukati responded by telling Raila that he had asked good questions, but that it was not the time to answer them because the commission was still vetting other presidential contenders. The commission will make the information available to the public once the procedure is completed, according to Chebukati. He stated that the commission will hold one-on-one meetings to explore such matters.

Raila couldn’t keep a smile on his face as the auditorium erupted in applause. As Raila and Martha Karua remained silent and observed what was going on in the room, some music could be heard playing in the background.
The Azimio La Umoja team had a fantastic day as they watched their aspirations come true in phases. Raila will compete in the presidential arena against DP Ruto, who will be challenged by a number of other candidates.
