Brian Higgins Mbugua, the Deputy Executive Director of UDA, has found himself at the centre of public outrage after being accused of gross misconduct during an official trip to China.

According to Maverick Aoko, who shared the details on X on July 31, 2025, Mbugua was part of a UDA delegation sent to China for what was described as “communism benchmarking.”

However, instead of attending official meetings, Mbugua allegedly disappeared into the city’s nightlife, spending time in Chinese brothels and paying Ksh500,000 for a night with a transgender sex worker.

The details shared by Aoko are shocking and have sparked massive anger among Kenyans online.

While citizens continue to suffer under a heavy economic burden, senior officials like Mbugua are accused of wasting taxpayer money on shameful pleasures in foreign countries.

Aoko did not hold back, stating that Mbugua skipped every official engagement and instead turned the trip into a private adventure funded by public resources. She posted images, including screenshots of WhatsApp messages and visuals linked to TV47, as she laid out her case against Mbugua.

Kenyans, already fed up with a leadership that seems out of touch with their daily struggles, have reacted with fury. Many are now questioning the values of UDA and the kind of individuals being trusted with power.

Mbugua, who plays a key role in UDA’s operations and political programs, is accused of completely abandoning his duties for personal gratification.

For someone holding such a sensitive position in the ruling party, the conduct described is not only a disgrace but a direct insult to citizens who expect leadership, not embarrassment.

So far, there has been total silence from both Mbugua and the UDA party. This silence is only adding to public frustration, with many seeing it as an attempt to sweep the issue under the rug.

But the public is not letting it go. The accusations have spread widely, and people are demanding accountability.

Questions are being asked why was he sent on the trip in the first place? How much did it cost the taxpayer?

And how many other officials are misusing state-funded trips under the guise of diplomatic missions?

Maverick Aoko has once again brought a hidden story into the open. Whether or not those in power want to address it, the damage is done. Mbugua’s reputation is already in ruins among the public, and unless UDA acts fast, it will only confirm what many are beginning to believe that the party is filled with self-serving individuals who care little about the people they claim to serve.

In a time when Kenyans are tightening their belts just to survive, the thought of a UDA official throwing away half a million shillings in one night abroad is enough to make any citizen sick.
