A sombre mood engulfed the residents of Munyaka area on Monday, March 11, after a man brutally murdered his estranged wife and daughter before taking his own life.

The man and woman, who were living separately, had been embroiled in constant marital disputes, according to local sources. The wife had moved out, renting a house near the Munyaka Police Station where she lived with her children.

On the fateful day, the man tracked down his wife to her new residence. Armed with a crude weapon, he attacked and killed her. Their daughter, a Form Two student, witnessed the horrifying scene and fled to seek help. However, the man caught up with her and hacked her to death.

The suspect later committed suicide by hanging himself.

This tragic incident adds to the escalating number of fatal domestic disputes across the country. In the past month alone, about five women have lost their lives in similar circumstances.

The gruesome murders, predominantly occurring within the marriage set-up, have drawn widespread condemnation from Kenyans. Calls for those in violent relationships to seek counselling or amicably part ways have intensified in a bid to curb such untimely deaths.

“The man is said to have tracked down the wife to the new location before attacking her and hacking her to death with a crude weapon.

“After witnessing her mother’s gruesome murder, one of the children, a form two student, ran outside to seek help from neighbours. However, the suspect caught up with her, hacking her from the back, killing her instantly. The man later took his own life by hanging himself,” A Local Media Station Reported.
