President William Ruto will most likely handle his campaign financers the same way he is treating his allies, analyst Danstan Omari says.
Ruto has been seen keeping those who helped him win the presidency close, with some landing ministerial and other top government jobs.
Omari says that he should also be expected to keep those who bankrolled his campaigns close, as a way of rewarding them for sacrificing their money for him.
He argues that just as has always been the case, these people will be placed in a position where they will have direct access to the Head of State.
He adds that they will also wield immense power in Ruto’s regime, even though some might not land legal offices and state jobs, but will be very powerful.
“These are people he cannot ignore in his day-to-day running of the government. Some bankrolled the hustler movement campaigns. He will definitely not run the government outside the existing norms. He will have to listen to those who bankrolled the campaigns and those who helped him win the top seat,” the lawyer told the Sunday Nation.
He has also predicted that some known faces close to Ruto will also benefit greatly, especially those who have been with him for long periods of time.
He has listed the likes of Energy Cabinet Secretary nominee David Chirchir, Kithure Kindiki (Interior) and Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei.
“Worldwide, kitchen cabinets exist. They can be outside the cabinet or inside . In Ruto’s formation, there are those in the cabinet,” the lawyer adds.
Others expected to be very powerful in Ruto’s government are Transport CS Nominee Kipchumba Murkomen, Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet and economist David Ndii.
