Nairobi governor-elect Johnson Sakaja might soon find himself facing an impeachment motion should the MCAs rivalry witnessed during his swearing-in persist in his leadership.
The division became clear after Azimio – One Kenya allied Member of County Assembly (MCAs) were reportedly treated with humiliation by Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja’s close allies during the inauguration ceremony at Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi.
According to Kileleshwa ward MCA elect Robert Alai, the members of county assembly associated with Azimio – One Kenya coalition were forced to leave after arriving at swearing-in venue and found out that there were no seats reserved for the MCAs.
Alai who was among the disgruntled MCAs were allegedly told to stand for the rest of the swearing-in ceremony or leave. The MCAs decided to leave after being subjected to embarrassment by Sakaja’s confidants.
“As Azimio aligned MCAs in Nairobi, no seats has been reserved for us, so we were told to stand or leave. Now forced to leave. Don’t say we boycotted” Alai said.
Justice Roselyne Aburili, assisted by Magistrate Caroline Kabucho alongside the judge who administered the signing of integrity document to the duo (Johnson Sakaja and Njoroge Muchiri), administered the oath of office.
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) president-elect William Ruto also attended the Inauguration ceremony.
This altercation between Sakaja’s associates and Nairobi County MCAs allied to Azimio – One Kenya coalition comes after Ruto’s UDA party produced the highest number of elected MCAs of 36 against Raila Odinga’s ODM of 35 MCAs.
If the perceived looming differences between the two rival factions will persist, then Raila’s allied MCAs might be forced to lodge a motion to dethrone Governor Sakaja if reconciliation mechanisms won’t be deployed timely.
During the swearing-in, Nairobi Metropolitan Services boss General Mbadi assured to revert back the 4 functions accosted to NMS during former embattled governor Mike Sonko.
