Police in Nakuru County have arrested a 37-year-old woman who is suspected of killing her husband following a domestic dispute at their home in Rongai Constituency.
The suspect, identified as Caroline Chebet, is accused of fatally stabbing her 27-year-old husband, Alphonse Ochieng, during an argument that reportedly turned violent. The incident has shocked residents of the area, although neighbours say the couple had a history of frequent disagreements.
According to people living nearby, loud arguments between the two were common and had become almost routine. Several neighbours said they had heard the couple quarrelling on many occasions and that previous attempts to help them resolve their differences had not been successful.
One neighbour, Ochieng Otieno, said the disturbance began around midnight. He explained that hearing the couple argue was not unusual because they often fought. During the incident, they heard the woman shouting that someone’s child would die, but many neighbours believed it was another domestic disagreement and chose not to interfere. It was only later that they learned the confrontation had ended in tragedy.
Family members rushed to find out what had happened after receiving the news. Alphonse’s brother, Stephen Otieno, said he first went to the hospital before being directed to the annex mortuary. There, he found his brother’s body with what he described as a deep stab wound to the abdomen. He said the family was devastated by the loss and had gone to identify the body.
Stephen also revealed that some relatives had previously expressed concern about his brother’s marriage because Caroline was older than him. However, he did not suggest that this had any connection to the fatal incident.
Police responded to the scene and launched investigations before taking Caroline Chebet into custody. Officers are now working to establish the exact events that led to the fatal stabbing.
Rongai Sub-County Police Commander Daniel Birech confirmed the arrest and said the suspect remains in police custody. She is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges related to the incident.
Meanwhile, the body of Alphonse Ochieng has been moved to the annex mortuary at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, where it will remain pending a postmortem examination scheduled for later this week.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing as police seek to establish all the facts.
