On Friday, as reported by one of the local media houses, an ODM politician publicly announced that she will run for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking openly to the public, she said she is ready to face President William Ruto on the ballot in 2027. She noted that her decision did not come by accident but after observing the political direction the country is taking.

According to her, Kenyans deserve leaders who are honest, bold, and ready to address the real problems affecting ordinary citizens.

In a statement she made, Ruth Odinga revealed that after closely observing the situation within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, it appears the party is not fully prepared to present a clear candidate for the next general election.

She said this gap is what pushed her to step forward and make her intentions known. Ruth stated that she feels ready to carry the party’s flag if given a chance, adding that leadership is about stepping up when others are hesitant.

She further said the country is going through tough economic times and needs leaders who understand the struggles of the people.

Ruth Odinga also took the opportunity to praise her brother, Raila Odinga, describing him as a true statesman and a national leader.

She said Raila has played a big role in shaping Kenya’s politics and standing firm for democracy over the years.

According to Ruth, when Raila was given an opportunity to choose leaders for different government positions, he selected people from various regions across the country.

She emphasized that this showed Raila is not a tribal leader but someone who believes in unity and inclusivity.

She added that Raila’s leadership style should be respected and learned from, especially by younger politicians.

Ruth said her admiration for Raila does not mean she cannot take her own political path, noting that every leader must one day rise and take responsibility.

She concluded by saying that her focus is on serving Kenyans and offering leadership that puts the country first.
