It is becoming clear that Dr. Evans Kidero is once again showing the worst side of Kenyan leadership by trying to silence people who speak the truth about him.

The recent case involving Bonface Omondi Nyangla has exposed Kidero’s desperation to control public opinion and hide behind legal threats instead of answering the real questions being raised about his past and his character.

Nyangla, who was once associated with Kidero during the last elections, is now facing serious charges of cyber harassment simply because he dared to criticize Kidero on Facebook. The posts, written in Luo, painted Kidero as a man who can easily be manipulated, a view that many Kenyans might actually agree with given Kidero’s political record.

What is disturbing is how fast the wheels of law moved against Nyangla. On April 20, 2025, he made the posts. By April 25, he was arrested without even a warrant. It raises big questions about how Kidero is able to use the police and the courts to fight his personal battles instead of allowing open debate like any honest leader would. When Nyangla appeared before the court, he pleaded for leniency, explaining that he is the sole breadwinner for his family and that his children depend on him for school fees. Yet Kidero, a man already tainted by past corruption allegations and failures as Nairobi governor, seems determined to punish him for telling the uncomfortable truth.

It is ironic that a man like Evans Kidero, who has faced investigations from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for alleged embezzlement of public funds, now wants to hide behind claims of protecting his reputation.

This is the same Kidero who left Nairobi in a worse state than he found it, with broken systems, debt, and widespread complaints of poor service delivery. Instead of answering for his leadership failures, he now wants to paint himself as a victim whenever someone points out his shortcomings. This case shows how far he is willing to go to protect his damaged image, even if it means using state machinery to crush those who helped him rise in the first place.

The public reaction has been sharp and unforgiving. Many on social media have called out Kidero for acting like a coward, attacking those who once supported him when they refuse to be blind to his mistakes. Comments circulating online describe his actions as low, shameful, and a betrayal of the people who fought for him politically.

The fact that names like Benji Jakogana are also being mentioned shows that Nyangla is not alone. There could be others who have suffered the same silent intimidation tactics but fear coming forward because of Kidero’s influence and money.

The bigger issue here is not just about one Facebook post. It is about whether powerful figures like Kidero should be allowed to use the courts to silence criticism and whether Kenya’s legal system is truly impartial when dealing with politically connected individuals. If every leader who feels insulted online can rush to court and have critics arrested, then free speech in Kenya is in real danger. What Kidero is doing goes beyond protecting his name, it is about scaring people into silence and covering up the many questions still hanging over his head.

As this case progresses, it will tell us a lot about whether Kenya is moving forward as a democracy or sliding back into a dark time where only the rich and powerful can speak freely.

Dr. Evans Kidero, once again, has shown that instead of answering the tough questions about his leadership and scandals, he prefers to bully his critics into submission.

It is a shameful reminder that some politicians will do anything to keep their dirty pasts hidden, no matter who they have to crush along the way.
