Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has launched a scathing attack on Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, criticizing his focus on a chapati-making machine rather than major infrastructure projects.

Amisi took to X to question Sakaja’s priorities after President William Ruto promised to support Nairobi’s school feeding program with a machine capable of producing one million chapatis daily.

The governor’s request for such a machine has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising the initiative while others, like Amisi, see it as misplaced.

“A governor of the biggest regional capital city, whose GDP is more or equal to about 15 African countries, boasts of chapatis as his main economic activity and legacy project,” Amisi wrote.

“He even requests the head of state to forget underground speed train systems, overpass roads around the city, and water points across residences, but instead to buy him a monstrous chapati-making machine.”

The outspoken MP further mocked Sakaja, suggesting that Nairobi’s leadership should be focused on transformative projects rather than short-term solutions.

He compared the excitement surrounding the chapati initiative to a historic event, saying, “And the voters and citizens still line up the streets to cheer him for such a revolutionary idea since Vasco da Gama traversed the Cape of Good Hope.”

Amisi concluded his post with a call for national renewal, declaring, “Kenya needs a Renaissance!”

The controversy highlights a broader debate on governance priorities in Kenya’s capital, where issues such as traffic congestion, water shortages, and public transport remain major concerns.

While Sakaja has defended the school feeding program as a means to tackle hunger among students, critics argue that Nairobi needs more ambitious and long-term solutions.
