City tycoon and philanthropist Agnes Kagure has taken to social media to underscore the pivotal role of women’s empowerment in societal progress.
In her Facebook post on March 8, she asserted, “A society that invests in its women is a society that thrives. Every girl deserves education, every woman deserves opportunity, and every voice deserves to be heard. Together, let’s continue to break barriers and thrive together!”

Kagure’s message aligns seamlessly with her longstanding commitment to advancing women’s rights and opportunities in Nairobi.
Through the Agnes Kagure Foundation (AKFO), she has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at uplifting women and girls across the city.
In December 2024, AKFO launched a groundbreaking gender-inclusive campaign to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV), emphasizing the crucial role of men in eradicating such violence.
The event, held in Nairobi, brought together participants from the city’s 85 wards for in-depth discussions and training on GBV response, prevention, and survivor support.

Kagure highlighted that achieving a violence-free society requires everyone’s participation, noting, “Men are not just allies but also key players in creating a safer and more inclusive society.”
Furthering her grassroots approach, Kagure partnered with Community Health Volunteers and Champions (CHVs) to address the alarming rise in GBV and femicide.
She emphasized that CHVs, with their trusted community relationships, are well-positioned to identify at-risk individuals and offer immediate assistance to survivors. This collaboration aims to build a future where all women and girls are safe, leveraging the unique position of CHVs to drive meaningful change.

Kagure has also been proactive in addressing menstrual health challenges faced by girls in low-income areas.
For example in June 2024, through AKFO, she organized an event in Kangemi to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and distributed menstrual products to needy girls.
She expressed satisfaction that discussions around menstruation, once considered taboo, are now gaining the attention they deserve, leading to better support and funding.
Recognizing the transformative power of economic empowerment, Kagure has been a staunch advocate for supporting women’s groups across Nairobi’s 17 constituencies.
Kagure’s initiatives have consistently demonstrated that empowering women leads to more resilient communities. She believes that economically empowered women are more likely to stand against issues like femicide and GBV.
By providing economic support and fostering community-building programs, AKFO is creating safe spaces where women can thrive, thereby breaking cycles of fear and building a future devoid of violence.
